Columbus may have discovered America but John Maier has discovered a new wild yeast.
After several years and extensive trial and error, Rogue found a breakthrough yeast that was developed from the infamous old beard growth of Rogue Brewmaster John Maier.
Samples of John’s Beard were sent to White Labs in San Diego and to the shock of the experts at White Labs, the beard samples produced a yeast strain that was perfect for use in brewing. Additional testing was conducted and confirmed that the yeast strain was not Rogue’s proprietary Pacman yeast.
The beard yeast is currently being used in test brews in order to determine the perfect style & yeast combination. The beard beer will be released in early 2013.
